Minto-Brown
Island Park bike ride
July 13, 2024. (Saturday)
Eight of us enjoyed a bicycle ride
through 3 parks, starting at Wallace
Marine Park in West Salem, through
Salem's Riverfront PArk, and then
spending most of our time eiding in
Mint-Brown Island park. It was a
very warm day, but during the
moerning, temperatures gradually rose
between 70 and 79ºF. Also, there was a
cool breeze, and we had lots of shade
from trees. We ended the ride with
brunch at Annette's restaurant in West
Salem.

Barlow
Trail (Oregon Trail) bike ride
June 29, 2024. (Saturday) This
was a history tour of parts of the
Oregon Trail established by Samuel
Barlow in 1845 and 1846. We rode
our bicycles from Barlow Pass (4 miles
east of Government Camp) to Welches,
where we had a late lunch / early
dinner at the Chicali Cantina.
We followed a mix of roads and trails,
including the original waqgon trail
called "Barlow Road", the old Mt. Hod
Loop Highway, which is now mostly
abandoned, and parts of highway 26 and
nearby roads and trails, including a
portion of the Pioneer Bridle
Trail. Twelve people
participated.
We began
with a brief introduction
about the Oregon Trail at
Barlow Pass.

Happy
Hour in April
April 2, 2024.
(Tuesday)
Almost every month we have a social
gathering such as a Happy Hour, a
Pizza Party, a Chocolate Party, and
more. At a recent Happy Hour, there
were a dozen people. This time,
only 6 people showed up.
This was our "April
Fools" happy hour, though held a day
later. A good time was had by
all. It was small and intimate and
cozy. We met at at McMenamin's, near
the Lloyd Center, 1504 NE Broadway,
Portland, Oregon.

Ski
the Glade Trail Day
March 2, 2024.
(Saturday)
This event is an annual reenactment of
how skiing was done in the 1920s and
1930s, before there were any ski lifts
on Mt. Hood. All trails started
from Government Camp. People had
to climb up before they could ski
down. Later, they were able to ride a
bus to Timberline, and then ski down.
And for a short time, they were able
to ride the Skiway tram that was a
modified bus that traveled along
cables from Government Camp to
Timberline Lodge.
For the past 21 years, since 2003, the
Mt. Hood Museum in Government
Camp has been organizing this event,
where shuttle buses transport skiers
up to Timberline, and then people ski
or ride down the 3 mile Glade Trail to
Government Camp, and they can do it
multiple times. This is the only day
of the year that the Glade Trail is
grooomed and patrolled by the Mt. Hood
Ski Patrol. It is always done on
the first Saturday in March.

Day on YouTube:

Brundage
Mountain and Tamarack
February 11 - 16, 2024.
(Monday) Our club members
had a great time on the trip to
McCall, Idaho, with skiing at Brundage
Mountain and Tamarack. Both ski
areas are on the Indy Pass, so skiing
there was free for all of us who had
an Indy Pass.
Walt Blomberg
wrote: "2 days at Tamarack resort

Snowvana
November 19-21,
2021. (Friday -
Sunday)
This year, Snwovana was held at The Convention Center.
After 3 years of existing separately, this year the Ski
Fever Show and Snowvana merged into one. Snowvana
has now grown from 2 days to 3 days and it incorporates
a large Ski Swap. The largest retailers in the
Portland area had a large presence.. Also, the 3
largest ski areas on Mt. Hood were present, as well as
Silver Mountain (Idaho), Hoodoo, and Mt. Ashland.
