FWSA
Awards
Each year at the annual Convention, the
Far West Ski Association awards the best club
newsletters, web sites, and overall outstanding
clubs from among dozens of ski clubs in the West.
We submit our newsletter and web site
for judging, and also submit an essay about our
club.

The list below might not be complete. Some of it is
from memory, or from our old newsletters, and we may
have missed some awards or some people.
2022 Top
Website award from THE GOODESTATE.com. A
minimum of 30 out of 40 points is needed to earn this
award. Our club got 34 points. See qualifying criteria
here.
2019 FWSA
Hans Georg Award.
Linda McGavin received the Hans
George Award, FWSA's highest award, for
"distinguished accomplishment and long-term
contribution to skiing, given to an individual who
has contributed significant achievements to skiing,
not necessarily organized skiing. It reflects
a long-term commitment over the years."
To mention just a few of her
accomplishments:
1) Edited the annual NW Skiers'
Directory for 32 years.
2) Edited the NWSCC Newsletter for many
years.
3) Was a co-founder of the Plaza Ski
Club.
4) Was a co-founder of the NWSCC.
5) Has volunteered for numerous
charities, including the Oregon Cancer Ski Out and
Ski to Defeat ALS.
... and the list goes on!!!
2017 FWSA
Safety Person of the Year Award sponsored
by Telluride.
Emilio
Trampuz won for efforts to establish and
mark two safety boundaries on Mt. Hood in an area
west of Timberline known for skiers getting lost.

2016 FWSA
Hans Georg Award;
Debbi Kor won the award for for
distinguished accomplishment and long-term
contribution to skiing. This award is given to an
individual or individuals who have contributed
significant achievements to skiing, not necessarily
organized skiing. It reflects a long term
contribution (of at least 10 years) and is the
highest award of the Far West Ski Association. Debbi
Kor has been on the Mountain High Board in various
positions for over 30 years, and has been the club
President since 2014. She has also been on the
NWSCC Board for about 16 years, and has been the Far
West Ski Association's VP of Marketing and
Sponsorship for 14 years.
2016
FWSA Bill Berry Hard News Award.
Linda
McGavin won recognition for
Outstanding service to skiing by writers for the
printed media in a hard article. For countless years
she has edited and published the NWSCC Newsletter
(distributed to 37 ski clubs in the Northwest).
Also, she has edited and published NW Snowsporrts
Guide (formerly known as the NW Skiers' Directory)
for 32 years. Over the years, Linda has personally
written dozens of articles for the Guide. For many
years, she has been the Director of Communications
for the NWSCC.
2014 Western
Ski Heritage Award
Emilio
Trampuz won this award for preserving
and popularizing the history of Mt. Hood, through
articles, videos, and also by guiding history bike
tours in the summer and history ski tours in the
winter. This award is sponsored by Steamboat Resort,
Colorado.
Emilio
also won the J.
Stanley Mulin award for outstanding
contribution to the sport of skiing.
2013 FWSA
Safety Person of the Year Award
Gordon
Lusk won for his attention to safety
issues at our PACRAT races.
This award is sponsored by
Aspen/Snowmass in Colorado.
2007
FWSA
President's Award
Debbi Kor won the award for her
contribution to the Far West Ski Association as the
VP of Marketing.
2006 FWSA
Elisabeth "Shatzi" Wood Award, given to
the Far West woman who has, through efforts in ski
club, council, region, or national, made a decisive
contribution to skiing. Debbi
Kor won this year.
2007 FWSA
Safety Person of the Year Award
sponosred by Aspen/Snowmass.
Emilio
Trampuz won for his numerous articles
advocating safety on the slopes, published in "Lift
Lines" and on the Mt. High web site, and for
promoting a Vision of Safer Skiing in the 21st

2007 FWSA
President's Award
Mary Olhausen won the
award for her contribution to the Far West Ski
Association. Mary was the NWSCC President at the
time.
2008 FWSA

2005 FWSA
Man of the Year Award.
Steve Coxen won in the final
round of the competition. He was originally
nominated by the Skiyente ski club.
2004 FWSA
Hans Georg Award;
Steve
Coxen won the award for distinguished
accomplishment and long term contribution to skiing.
Steve Coxen has been the FWSA President from 2000 -
2003, and was also the NWSCC President at the time.
2002
FWSA J. Stanley Mullin Award. Steve Coxen
won this award for his outstanding contribution to
the sport of skiing.
